Rock Climbing in NYC: Skaters Joel Popoteur and Friends Breathe New Life into bouldering in Upper Manhattan

Skaters who climb, climbers who skate-- gather round.

While this narrow cross-section of the sporting population could probably fit in my living room, this video is still worth sharing. The folks over at jenkemmag put together a little doc to highlight the burgeoning outdoor climbing scene in the city. Led by Supreme employee, long-time skater, and Washington Heights resident Joel Popoeur, he calls this Dominican-inspired movement "Dominguez Corporation," a vibrant collective that hikes, skates, and climbs together. While this type of climbing isn't about high performance, it is certainly good for the culture. In a world where outdoor sports have become dangerously out of reach for most people (financially or otherwise), social clubs like this have the potential to unlock such access for many more. We are here for it.

We love it when our community helps us source the sickest, most hilarious or irreverent stories and videos out there. Whether it’s your own POV or something you and your BFF put together, TGR wants to see it. Join the Stash Community and submit your videos for an opportunity to be highlighted on TetonGravity.com and our socials.
